A great group of future writers gathered at Rocky Heights Middle School in Littleton, Colorado for the 8th annual NanoNight. On NanoNight, the students get to stay after school, eat pizza and write until 8:00 PM. This year, NanoNight coincided with pajama day, so when I arrived I was greeted by more than forty 6th, 7th, and 8th graders looking extra comfy in their p.j.’s.
This was my second visit to RHMS and the NaNoWriMo Club sponsored by teacher, Judi Holst. The students had voted ahead of time about the topics they wanted me to present on: Dialogue, Chapters Vs. Scenes, and Subplots.
It takes a lot of commitment to decide to stay after school and work on a novel for nearly 8 weeks. I was so impressed with the students and their writing at RHMS. They have some great books started that I’m hoping to read someday!
P.S. I didn’t have time to change into my own pajamas. But here’s what I like to wear, a comfy, nerdy t-shirt and flannel pj pants.
